The day THIS flooded the internet…

The day this happened was today. And it’s a good day. A beautiful, entertaining, digestible, relevant, creative approach at educating people on the dangers (yes dangers!) of drinking soda.  I don’t have to say much because they said everything for me. So watch, read, and enjoy. Visit the website here: The Real Bears Geeze. I told you guys lemon water was...

Map to Happy…

I’m not gonna lie. I’ve been a major grump this week. And last week. But mostly this week. I wake up generally pissed off,  go about my day regularly (but exhausted) and come home and feel like a grump. I’m noticing a pattern.  This passed month has been filled with drinking and celebrating with friends, snuggling up on the couch as fall rolls in, and eating mostly whatever is put down in front of me.  A far departure from my normal routine.  I’m blaming it on the alcohol and the crappy food. When you feel like crap, you are crap. It’s no more complicated than that.  And when you know you feel like crap, and you do nothing about it, then you REALLY feel...

Hail to the Kale

Hail to the Kale

Everyone is ranting and raving about kale these days. Myself included. Dark leafy greens are kind of an obsession.  I like spinach a lot. I LOVE kale. (fun fact: the nutrients in kale absorb faster than spinach!)  So on the real, why all the fuss?   First of all, do you know how much phytonutrient, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant goodness kale has in it?  There is so much nutrition packed into such little space (and so few calories) that it’s considered a superfood. Which means it can pretty much make you fly. And all that antioxidant, anti-inflammatory stuff, that’s what wards off cancer by the way.   A surprise to many folks out there, kale is high in...

Why chia seeds are magical.

I don’t deny it – I am obsessed with chia seeds.  I put them in everything. Soups, smoothies, oatmeal, baked goods, you name it. Why are these little seeds so magical? Here five reasons: 1 – Omega-3 fatty acids. Chia seeds are super rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3’s are an essential fatty acid with tons of health benefits including that they lower triglycerides and inflammation in the body – and those are two really good things to keep low. By weight, they halve more omega-3’s than salmon does. 2 – Fiber. The outside of the seed is insoluble fiber, the inside is (super) soluble fiber.  Chia seeds keep our systems moving regularly while...

I am not a runner.

I am not a runner.

My whole life, I have dismissed myself from running because “I am not a runner”. Last year, at age 55, I cheered for my mom along the sidelines of the NYC half-marathon in awe of the liveliness she had, the energy of the community and the fact that she was running 13.1 miles and really, since when was she “a runner? For the first time in my life, I kind of wondered what it would like to be one. Lucky for me, this was not a possibility because we all know that I am not a runner. For god’s sake, I did a 12-minute mile on the high school physical fitness test. Running is just not my thing. End of story.   As the weather got warmer, I started wondering, what was...
